What this day looked like
By the time we cleaned up at 8 PM, more than 150 families had sat down together for a hot meal in our community space — turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, and three kinds of pie made by volunteer grandmothers.
Many came alone and left with new friends. A handful came not knowing where their next meal would be — and left with takeaway containers heavy enough to carry them through the weekend.
By the numbers
- 150+ families served
- 42 volunteers across two shifts
- 18 dishes brought from home by neighbors
- 0 people turned away
Thank you
To the church across the street that loaned us their tables. To the family that dropped off three turkeys at 6 AM. To the kids who ran around with crayons making placemats. To the woman who quietly washed dishes for three hours and slipped out before we could thank her — we saw you.
This is what Thanksgiving is supposed to feel like. — First-time guest
